This course is designed to:
 Allow students to share any cancer stories they may have or how this disease has affected their lives.
 History of oncology massage and its place in mainstream medical practices.
 This course will teach students the complexity of cancer, its origins, manifestation in the body, and
metastasis.
 We will discuss common cancer treatments, side effects, medications, and the cautions and
contraindications involved with each client specifically.
 Students will learn the 5-Level “Walton Pressure Scale” used country wide for oncology and
medically frail clients.
 Manual lymph drainage massage will be demonstrated and practiced.
 Instructions will include proper positioning of the client on a massage table, amount of pressure
used, and the duration of the massage session.
 During the last day of class each student will receive a scripted cancer diagnosis, their partner will
interview them and perform an oncology massage.
 Students will receive a client health form to be used in their oncology massage practices.
 Protocol developed by the MD Anderson Cancer Care Center’s massage team will be shared to assist
the students with up-to-date information.
 Marketing ideas and career advice will be shared.

 Deep Tissue Techniques for those who have experienced Trauma and Abuse.

 Course Description:

Deep tissue techniques for persons who have experienced trauma and abuse.
This 12 hour hands on CEU teaches a detailed cervical treatment while introducing trauma informed language to provide services to those who have suffered trauma. PTSD and anxiety from abuse and trauma affects the body in many ways. In this course we will discuss how to best support our clients who struggle with these conditions.
