Descriptions of Massage

Myofascial Isolation (MI) is a unique blend of Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular therapy and Isolation stretching designed to relieve pain patterns and Myofascial restrictions in the body. MI is done with the intent of improving medical conditions or pathologies that have been prescribed by a medical professional. These techniques also help maintain and prevent injuries from repetitive stresses on the body from daily activities.

The use of MI allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of MI techniques that include Myofascial assessment, ROM assessment and Disc testing. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanicst, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

MI assessments and examinations primarily address:

  • Ischemia (tight tissue with reduced blood flow)
  • Myofascial trigger points (hypersensitive points within muscles that give rise to referred phenomena, including pain)
  • Neural entrapment (pressure on nerves by muscles and other soft tissues), and nerve compression (pressure on nerves by osseous and other bonelike tissues, such as cartilage or discs).
  • Postural assessment (assessment of the position of the body as a whole)
  • Dysfunctional gait patterns (manner of movement when walking) with constant consideration for many other perpetuating factors, such as hydration, nutrition, breathing patterns, and psychological stress.

Hands-On Treatment

Each MI treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a thorough examination and treatment of the body’s soft tissues using specially designed protocols that are taught in a step-by-step process. These time-tested, hands-on techniques are built upon a science-based foundation and guided by clinical evidence. NMT is highly effective for clients who present with chronic pain and is often successful in reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. These techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and post-surgical care; many help to improve performance in sports or dance and help prevent injuries due to these activities.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Gentle pressure is applied slowly to allow the fascial system to elongate.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions do not usually show up on many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
